10 years ago, my friends woke me up and told me to turn on the TV

10 years ago, I had been on a flight the day before

10 years ago , I didn’t think something like this could happen

10 years ago, I had never been to the World Trade Center

10 years ago, I didn’t even know who Osama Bin Laden was

10 years ago, I hadn’t even met my wife yet

10 years ago, I didn’t stare at airplanes flying overhead as long

10 years ago, I didn’t have enough respect for our servicemen and servicewomen, firefighters, police officers and first repsonders

10 years ago, I took a lot of things for granted

10 years ago, I got a call from my parents asking if I was in downtown Chicago

10 years ago, I felt a pain in my gut like none I’d felt before

10 years ago, I watched Tom Brokaw for a week straight

10 years ago, I thought Rudy Giuliani would be president someday

10 years ago, I had been out watching the Broncos/Giants game at a bar the night before and it was loud enough that at times, I could barely talk to my brother standing next to me

10 years ago, I sat with those same people I’d watched the game with and all I heard was deafening silence

10 years ago, I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up, and was selfishly thankful that I still had time to figure it out

10 years ago, a test or research paper was all I worried about at night

10 years ago, I didn’t spend enough time thinking about how to give back

10 years ago, I felt angry, sad and helpless at the same time

10 years ago, I wanted to help but didn’t know how…and I’m still not sure I do today. But I think remembering is a start.

God Bless America!
